PM Hails Contribution of North East Florida Medical Mission

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, has hailed the work of the North East Florida Medical Society (NEFMS) in providing free health services for residents of Hanover and St. James.

She was addressing a welcome reception for members of the mission team held on Saturday, November 7, at the Grand Palladium Resort and Spa in Hanover.

The team of medical professionals, under the leadership of Dr. Kenneth Jones from Florida in the United States, will be staging its second annual mission to Jamaica from November 9 to 13.

In commending members of the medical team for their voluntary work, Mrs. Simpson Miller said their contribution is invaluable.

“I am always very pleased to be here to share in this noble initiative (which is) a very worthy cause. You all lead significant lives because of the immense difference that you have made and continue to make in people’s lives,” she said.

The team, some of whom are of Caribbean heritage, will be providing primary, gynaecological, pain management, and dental care at elected health centres in Chester Castle, Grange and  Kendal in Hanover; and Granville in St. James.

Major surgeries will also be performed at Noel Holmes Hospital in Lucea, Hanover; Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, St. James; and the Falmouth General Hospital in Trelawny.

The team will also be donating medical, surgical and pharmaceutical supplies to aid in the delivery of healthcare services in the region.

The NEFMS delegation of 57 medical professionals is being accommodated at the Grand Palladium, one of the main sponsors of the mission. Other sponsors include the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and Jamaica Tours Limited.

The medical mission is under the patronage of Most Hon. Errald Miller, who is the Prime Minister’s husband.
