The Full Story

Prime Minister the Most Hon Portia Simpson Miller has expressed sadness at the loss of lives arising from the passage of Hurricane and Superstorm Sandy across the Caribbean and North America.

The Prime Minister said: “The prayers of the Jamaican people and our hearts go out to our Caribbean neighbours Haiti, Cuba  and the Bahamas and the government and people of the United States of America in the wake of the significant loss of life and damage to property resulting from the passage of Hurricane Sandy.

While natural disasters are always very challenging occurrences they are even more so in instances of extreme dislocation, severe hardships and death, and all Jamaica joins in expressing sadness at the loss of lives and damage caused by this unprecedented weather system, which only a few days ago also severely impacted Jamaica as Hurricane Sandy.

On behalf of the Government and people of Jamaica, I express my deepest sympathies to the people of North America and Canada in this hour of shared grief and keep in our prayers too the members of the diaspora who have been affected, Mrs. Simpson Miller said
