Plans for Pediatric Facility in Western Jamaica on Track

Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Fenton Ferguson, says that ground should be broken for a paediatric health facility in western Jamaica within a year.

The Minister, who was speaking at a Paediatric Renal Conference and Workshop on Sunday (October 6), at the Couples San Souci Hotel in Ocho Rios, said he is satisfied with the pace of preliminary work being carried out.

“Already, we have done significant work in terms of providing justification for the institution,  preliminary designs, and we are moving now in keeping with the public/private model to ensure that we follow the proper procedures,” he stated.

In an interview following his presentation, Minister Ferguson pointed out that there are persons, who have indicated an interest in participating in the project in terms of public/private partnership, and discussions are continuing.

He said that the matter was also raised as a priority by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, during her recent visit to China.

“The National Development Bank, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will have to play that critical role in taking it to the next stage relative to those partners,” he told JIS News.
