Permanent Secretary Calling on Jamaicans to Comment on Draft National Energy Policy

June 23, 2009

The Full Story

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Mining, Marcia Forbes is calling on Jamaicans especially industry stakeholders, to review the revised version of the draft National Energy Policy.
The Draft National Energy Policy, which was tabled as a green paper in Parliament in 2006, is now available on the Ministry’s website www.men.gov.jm
Comments can be forwarded to mforbes@men.gov.jm and should be sent no later than Friday June 26, 2009.
This tight timeline comes against the thrust to complete all revisions to present the Prime Minister with the official document by the end of June 2009. The National Energy Policy outlines the Government’s programmes and plans to effectively manage and develop Jamaica’s energy sector.
It aims, among other things, to ensure stable and adequate energy supplies for the country; reduce Jamaica’s dependence on oil through the development of renewable and alternative energy sources and technologies, and minimise the adverse environmental effects and pollution caused by the production, storage, transport and use of energy.
