Parochial Roads to be Rehabilitated in St. Mary

A total of 2.975 kilometres of parochial roads in St. Mary are to be rehabilitated under the Parish Infrastructure Development Programme (PIDP).
Cabinet approved the award of contracts for the roadwork at its sitting on Monday, February 9.
The three roads to be rehabilitated are Well Road, 0.900 kilometre; Villa Road, 1.210 kilometres; and Iterboreale Housing Scheme road, 0.865 kilometre.
Addressing the post Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, Information Minister, Senator Burchell Whiteman said the extent of the rehabilitation work would involve realignment and reshaping of the carriageway, including initial clean-up and desilting of the road; provision of base course and double surface dressing as well as asphalting concrete paving in selected locations; construction of new drains, culverts, catch basins and retaining walls for all roads, and provision of street signs.
Also at Monday’s sitting, Cabinet approved the award of a $23 million contract to National Safety Limited for the design, supply and installation of a complete fire alarm and detection system at the Oceana complex, downtown Kingston.
This project is being undertaken by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC), to provide a fully functional fire alarm and detection system for the property to satisfy fire prevention regulations.
The selected supplier will be responsible for the design of the system to include the provision of engineering plans and the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of all necessary controls and displays, with enclosures and all detectors, pull stations and alarms with associated connections and supports.
The supplier will also be responsible for installing necessary power supplies and to demonstrate the operation of the entire fire detection and alarm system, and the training of staff.
