Parochial Roads in Portland to be Rehabilitated

Cabinet has awarded an $18.5 million contract for the rehabilitation of 2.45 kilometres of parochial road in Portland, under the Parish Infrastructure Development Programme (PIDP), which is managed by the Local Government, Community Development and Sport Ministry.
Minister of Information, Senator Burchell Whiteman made the disclosure at the weekly post Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House yesterday (October 25).
The road repair contract, Minister Whiteman said, had been awarded to Construction Solution Limited, and would involve the rehabilitation of roads in Stanton/Harcourt, Benjamin Hill, and Belle Castle in the eastern parish.
Specific repair work to be carried out include, the re-alignment and reshaping of the carriage way; the provision of base course and double surface dressing as well as asphalting and concrete paving in selected locations; construction of new side drains, culverts, catch basins and retaining walls for all roads; and the provision of street signs.
Senator Whiteman told journalists that Cabinet had also awarded another contract for the construction of 1 kilometre of sewer main for Old Passage Fort Drive in St. Catherine.
The value of that contract is $18.1 million and has been awarded to Tankweld Construction Company Limited.
