Plans have moved into high gear for the staging of a number of activities in the parish of Manchester in commemoration of Parent Month, which is commemorated in November each year.
Community Relations Education Officer for the Ministry of Education and Youth’s Region Five, Charmaine Gooden-Monteith, told JIS News that the theme for the month would be ‘Parents: Today you guide tomorrow they lead’.
“We begin with a special church service at the new Beulah Moravian church on McKinley Road on Sunday the 5th at 10 a.m. and we are inviting as many persons as possible to come out and join us for the event,” she said.
Mrs. Gooden-Monteith added that next on the calendar would be the staging of an information exposition at the regional office in Mandeville on November 16. “Here we will be highlighting for the benefit of those who visit some of the issues affecting parents, we will also be sharing some much needed information that all parents should know,” she said.
Further noting that the month would culminate with the staging of a very important ceremony, she said, “this will be the Awards luncheon on November 22 at the Golf View Hotel starting at 1:00 p.m. This is where we will recognise those who have made excellent contribution to education over the years, those who can please join us as we collaborate to improve the education sector and the quality of life for our parents and children,” she said.
