ORC to Increase Fees as at February 1

January 26, 2005

The Full Story

As of February 1, persons using the services of the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) will be required to pay more. Chief Executive Officer of the ORC, Judith Ramlogan Chong, told JIS News that fees for registering companies would be increased from $7,000 to $10,000 while the registration of annual returns moves from $3,000 to $4,000.
Registering a charge moves from $2,300 to $3,000, while certified documents or part thereof will move from $100 to $150. With respect to the cost of ordinary copies, this will be increased from $50 to $100 while registration of a business name will move from $1,500 to $2,000.
The cost for the registration of an industrial and provident society will move from $6,000 to $8,000 while the registration of annual returns for the same moves from $2,000 to $3,000.
Mrs. Ramlogan Chong told JIS News that the ORC needed to increase its fees to help pay for the cost of providing various services.
She noted that since its computerization in 1994, the ORC has constantly upgraded its equipment, and is now using cutting edge technology to support its administration. “All our fees are going to be increased,” she explained, “that is all our fees having to do with filing under the Companies Act, the Registration of Business Names Act and the Industrial and Provident Societies Act.”
Meanwhile, she indicated that the ORC would also be offering new services as of February 1, when the new Companies Act comes into force.
These services and the attendant costs are as follows: Company Name Reservation – $2,000; Registration of Mutual Funds – $10,000; and to Restore a Company to the Companies Register will cost $15,000 in addition to filing fees.
The CEO is therefore encouraging persons who have outstanding documents to file, to take advantage of the existing rate regime, which will continue until this Friday, January 28.
A comprehensive listing of the new fees will be made available at the ORC, and on its website at www.orcjamaica.com.
The CEO also added that under the New Companies Act there were a number of forms which customers will be required to complete. These forms may be obtained at a minimal charge, or downloaded free of cost, from the ORC’s website. Customers with queries may call the ORC’s new Help Line at 906-6954, in addition to its regular switchboard lines.
The Office of the Registrar of Companies has not increased its fees since 1999.
