ONR Organises Clean-Up Exercise at Hope Zoo

The Office of National Reconstruction (ONR) will be undertaking a major clean-up exercise at the Hope Zoo from November 26 to 28.
Residents living in close proximity to the zoo, including the Hope Pastures community and students attending the University of the West Indies, the University of Technology and Mona Preparatory, are being invited to come out and support the effort.
Communications Liaison at the ONR, Tracey Hamilton, told JIS News that the office had learnt that this “favourite family park” had been badly hit by Hurricane Ivan and had sought the assistance of the National Youth Service (NYS) and the combined Jamaica Cadet Force in the clean-up effort.
“The NYS is very excited about [it]. The cadets as usual are our partners in this type of venture,” she noted.
Miss Hamilton said that she hoped to see approximately 350 persons participating in the restoration of the zoo and its surroundings.Since the hurricane, the ONR has worked with the NYS and the cadets to clean-up beaches in Negril, Portland Cottage and St. Elizabeth. These exercises, Miss Hamilton said, were very fruitful.
“Like I say with all other projects, it’s not a one-day, but a continuous effort. We just set the ball rolling and we hope the rest of the communities will take it upon themselves to continue what we’ve started,” she stressed.
