The Office of the Children’s Registry, OCR, an agency of the Ministry of Youth and Culture is pleased to announce the opening of our newest office, located in the parish of St. Mary. This is the fourth office to be established outside of the Corporate Area, augmenting offices previously opened in Westmoreland, Manchester, St. Ann, and our the head office in Kingston.

The new OCR office which began operations this morning is located at the Credit Union Building, Main Street, Highgate, St. Mary, and will be open on weekdays from 8:30am-5pm Mondays to Thursdays, and from 8:30am to 4pm on Fridays. Members of the public can reach the office by calling 1-888-PROTECT, 908-2132, 618-5888 or 631-8908, and reports of child abuse and/or missing children can also be made via walk-in, e-mail, post or the Child Abuse Reporting System, available for download from Blackberry app world.

Children’s Registrar, Mr. Greig Smith, says “It is our intention to one day have the OCR represented in each parish across Jamaica and the opening of this office in St. Mary is a significant step towards realizing that goal. We encourage the community in Highgate and surrounding areas to partner with our staff at the office there to make St. Mary and the island of Jamaica a safer place for our children”.

He added, “This expansion of our services is yet another one of our responses to the increased demand for the OCR to be more accessible and consequently, mitigating the circumstances which may allow child abuse in Jamaica to be perpetuated.”

As always, members of the public are being reminded to report all cases of known or suspected missing or abused children to the Registry. All reports received are kept confidential and you do not have to give your name when making a report.
