NWA Continues to Clear Roads

The National Works Agency (NWA) is working to clear roads that have been blocked due to heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Nicole.
Communications and Customer Services Manager at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, said that while the agency is trying to clear roads in the shortest possible time, there are some thoroughfares in Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth, St. Andrew, and Kingston that remain impassable.
“In Westmoreland, the corridor from Savanna-la-Mar to Negril in the vicinity of the Negril Golf Club is impassable and we are advising persons to use the route through Hog Heaven. We are trying to create a temporary road for persons to use in the vicinity of the golf course,” he told JIS on (October 4).
He informed that the roadway from Ferris to Mackfield is also impassable and persons travelling between Montego Bay and Savanna-la-Mar are being routed through Darliston.
Meanwhile, the west-bound carriageway along the Mandela Highway in Kingston is still flooded, while some corridors in St. Andrew, and St. Elizabeth remain closed.
“In St. Elizabeth, the New River roadway, which is the Santa Cruz bypass, is now impassable. Flood waters continue to impact the roadway in Luana, Maggotty, New Holland, and Newmarket and also by Middle Quarters,” Mr. Shaw said.
As it relates to the Bog Walk Gorge in St. Catherine, he said the agency is making effort to open the roadway to vehicular traffic within the next 12 hours.
