The Whitehall to Cumsee main road in St. Mary has been closed to the public with immediate effect, to facilitate critical repairs.
Collin Morrison, Community Relations Officer for the North Eastern Region of the National Works Agency (NWA), told JIS News that the problem of a breakaway of sections of the roadway, worsened by recent heavy rains, and the road could now only accommodate single lane traffic.
He said that most of the damage had occurred in the vicinity of the Martin’s Primary School and a critical retaining wall would be constructed as part of the rehabilitative work.
The project, Mr. Morrison informed, has been contracted to Quality Engineering Company Limited, and he assured that the NWA would work with the contractor to ensure that the roadway was restored as early as possible.
