NSWMA gets $64 Million to Clear Outstanding Balance owed to Contractors

The Ministry of Local Government, Community Development and Sport has disbursed $64 million to the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), to clear outstanding balance for services rendered by contractors employed to the NSWMA. Yesterday (March 1), some $40 million was disbursed and the remaining $24 million was handed over today.
The Ministry identified the funds after a meeting was held with the Board of the NSWMA at the Ministry’s Hagley Park Road Offices on March 1.
At the meeting, Minister of Local Government, Community Development and Sport, Portia Simpson Miller, also requested that a committee should conduct a full review of the operations and funding requirements of the NSWMA, in order for the Ministry to continue to adequately service them. Discussions are still underway as to the Terms of Reference of the review committee.
The three groups of persons to be paid are contractors, sweepers and disposal site workers. Payment will commence on Thursday, March 3 in the afternoon.
