NROCC to Undertake Initiatives to Expand Corridors of Toll Highway

The National Road Operating and Constructing Company (NROCC) is to undertake a number of programmes and initiatives during the current fiscal year, in the Government’s bid to further expand and improve the corridors of the toll highway.
This was noted by Transport and Works Minister, Michael Henry, when he made his contribution to the 2008/09 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on (May 28).
The projects to be undertaken include: construction of a new fishing village along the Dyke Road in St. Catherine; acquisition of land in Mount Rosser, the Spanish Town/Bog Walk bypass, and the Bog Walk to Linstead bypass, as well as the Fern Gully bypass in St. Ann, to proceed with the expansion of the Highway 2000 project; construction of the North/South link of Highway 2000, incorporating Mount Rosser and Bog Walk to Linstead, and Moneague to Golden Grove in
St. Ann; construction of the Sandy Bay to Williamsfield leg of the toll highway; completion of Segment 2a of the Northern Coastal Highway Improvement Project, and undertaking phase II of the Marcus Garvey Drive expansion project, between Ninth and East Avenues.
Mr. Henry pointed out that in order to “keep NROCC in business,” the Government will be called on to allocate some $2 billion in the next budget to do so.
