Nominations Open for Prime Minister’s Youth Awards

Persons submitting applications for the Prime Minister’s Youth Awards 2010 must do so by October 1.
The gala event, being organised by the National Centre for Youth Development (NCYD), youth arm of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, will be held on Sunday, November 28.
Youth Information Specialist at the NCYD, Rochelle Brooks, told JIS News that nomination forms can be collected and dropped off at the NCYD, 16A Half Way Tree Road, Kingston; National Youth Service Office, 6 Collins Green Avenue, Kingston; Social Development Commission (SDC) offices islandwide; and NCYD Youth Information Centres in St. Ann, St Mary, St. James, Portmore, Kingston and Portland.
“Initially, the deadline would have been the 24th of September, but we have extended that date to October 1,” she noted.
Forms can also be downloaded at NCYD’s Facebook pages, ncydjamaica and natl centre for youth development, and the Prime Minister’s Youth Awards 2010 Facebook page. Documents to verify academic qualifications must be submitted with the forms.
“You need to have those documentations submitted with your application forms, from there the young people who have applied will be shortlisted and interviewed and from that, the Prime Minister will choose his selected few,” she explained.
The Prime Minister’s Youth Award is the highest honour bestowed upon Jamaicans aged 15 to 24, who have achieved eminent national and international distinction in the categories of sports, youth in service, the arts and culture, academics, agriculture, leadership, journalism, international achievement and entrepreneurship.
