No Noise for Lady Bustamante

The public is asked to join in a National Day of Mourning for Lady Bustamante, widow of National Hero, the Right Excellent Sir Alexander Bustamante, on Saturday, August 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.
As a mark of respect for Lady Bustamante’s many years of devotion to nation building and workers’ rights, persons not attending the funeral but wishing to participate, are asked to wear sober, modest attire, engage in quiet activities for the day and also, where appropriate, fly the national flag at half mast.
Recommended Dress Women and men not wearing ties may wish to wear a small corsage tied with a black ribbon on the upper left lapel of blouse, shirt or jacket. Lady Bustamante especially loved the Anthurium flower.
Activities Activities that are flamboyant and noisy in nature, such as parties and promotions, should be postponed until after Lady Bustamante has been buried. Radio and television stations should air programmes to enhance the solemnity of the Day of National Mourning.
Flying of the National Flag
Flags should be flown at half mast, which means either one flag width below the top or two thirds below the top of the pole. Foreign national flags should not be flown at Jamaican establishments, such as hotels, during the period of mourning.
