The Full Story

Newly appointed Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), Audley Gordon, says he will be placing focus on improving communication with the public in order to enhance transparency and raise awareness about the work of the entity.

“We intend to be far more open and transparent, to communicate more and keep them (the public) in the loop, so that they can have more access to what we are doing every step of the way,” he said in an interview with JIS News.

He indicated that the community relations officers across the regions will be utilised in the process.

“We intend to have them put on far more community programmes, including town hall meetings, and school, youth club and citizens’ association meetings. They will also have conversations with people about garbage – the way they treat their garbage, what they should be putting out for collection, what they could be recycling and how they could reduce their garbage output,” he noted.

Mr. Gordon said that accompanying this will be a vigorous campaign to improve the agency’s operational efficiency.

“So, we want to run a very efficient operation and tighten up on every area of our activity, especially how we manage resources, how we manage our funds and our human resources,” he told JIS News.
