New Japanese Ambassador says he Will Work to Strengthen Relationship

The new Japanese Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency Hiromasa Yamazaki, says he will work to strengthen the relationship between both countries.

During his call on the Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, at the Ministry on Hagley Park Road in Kingston on January 25, the Ambassador said he is pleased about several aspects of his country’s assistance to Jamaica.

He pointed to the Grassroots Human Security Project and its impact in the various sectors, including education and health.

The Ambassador said before being appointed, he was involved in the investment sector in Japan, and he would seek to use his knowledge and expertise to further strengthen that aspect of the relationship.

“I would like to be a bit more active in this area, to be a bridge of the investment side between Jamaica and Japan,” he added.

Ambassador Yamazaki said he is eagerly looking forward to working with Minister McKenzie and the team from the Local Government Ministry.

Meanwhile, Mr. McKenzie said the relationship with Japan is one that he warmly welcomes and will strive to maintain and strengthen.

“I welcome the new Ambassador, and we will continue the relationship that has developed over many years. Discussions have been held about the possibility of us obtaining some fire trucks.  There are a number of fire trucks that have already been donated to Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth,” he said.

The Minister further noted that the Ministry has also been successful in negotiating two trucks from Japan to boost the fleet of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA).
