New Falmouth Fire Station to be Opened Soon

Minister of Local Government and Environment, Dean Peart has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the new Falmouth fire station in Trelawny, as the $90 million project is on schedule and is to be officially opened soon.
During a recent tour of the site, the Minister informed JIS News that the National Works Agency (NWA) and Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) were carrying out minor works at the facility and that should be completed by early this week.
The new facility is expected to be opened by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller.
Meanwhile, Senior Executive Architect in the Ministry, Adrian Smith, told JIS News that the project was worked on by a team of hard workers to meet the deadline of 18 months.
“The project has gone on schedule and we have completed it within the actual time,” he said.
Mr. Smith informed that the new fire station had facilities, such as a lecture room, a dining room and a gymnasium, where the firefighters could keep fit.
In addition, he said that the design also sought to create separate dormitories for male and female firefighters, explaining that each firefighter had his/her own private room space.
“We also created additional office space so that, in the case of a natural disaster, the building can actually house the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) team or soldiers or whoever is needed,” he said.
Acting Superintendent in charge of the Trelawny Division of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Dolfin Doeman told JIS News that he was happy for the new fire station and thanked the authorities for providing the facility. “I am looking forward for improved work output from my staff, because I know that they have been working in some very poor condition in recent times and this has been affecting their morale and hence affecting their work output. So, I am sure that their work output will be greatly improved in this new building,” he added.
Mr. Doeman said the firefighters were very grateful for the new building, and appealed to the members of staff to take the best care of the facility.
