The television studio and control room of the Creative Production and Training Centre (CPTC) in Kingston will soon be outfitted with new equipment valued at $45.9 million (US$741,000). The new equipment comes almost six months after a fire, caused by a short circuit, damaged the studio.
Speaking at yesterday’s (October 10) post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, Information Minister, Senator Burchell Whiteman told journalists that Cabinet had approved a contract to Broadcast International Group in Miami, Florida to re-equip CPTC’s studio and control room.
He said the contract was put to tender for both local and foreign suppliers, but there were no local bidders.
“The firm which has won the contract has a considerable amount of international experience in this field and was also in fact, doing certain work for the Radio Jamaica Communications Group (RJR), when it recently engaged in its expansion and improvement,” Minister Whiteman said.
