The Full Story

A new cohort of Junior Councillors will be installed next month, says Mayor of Kingston, Senator Councillor Delroy Williams.

“Our PR unit has already commenced the procedures to engage the educational institutions across the Municipality to (start) the selection process, so as to have the new Junior Councillors and Mayor assume office by November 9,” he said.

Senator Williams was providing an update to Councillors on some of the activities that will be held for this year’s observance of Local Government Month (November) at a  meeting of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation on October 9.

The Month will be observed under the theme: ‘Protecting the Vulnerable, Establishing Hope through Local Governance’.

Mayor Williams commended the outgoing Junior Councillors and Mayor (Annakay Hudson) for the tremendous work they did during their tenure.

“The junior council administration did a tremendous work and had a positive impact on our city, especially their thoughtful and selfless input into their legacy project at flag circle,” he said.

He said with Kingston being the centre of culture, entertainment and arts, several activities will be undertaken during the month, adding that more information will be provided during the next sitting of the Council.

“We are looking to honour, on an annual basis persons, groups or companies who have made significant contributions to the arts, culture and sports in the city. I think that is something that the Civic Committee can begin to look at as an annual event,” he said.

He said the initiative will begin this year, in recognition of Local Government Month.
