Nelson Assures JCF, Gov’t Seeking Closure to Pay Issues

Minister of National Security, Senator Hon. Dwight Nelson, has assured members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) that the Government is working assiduously to bring closure to their salary negotiations.
“There have been differences in the way we believe we should go forward but, let me assure you that, we are determined to find a way to achieve finality in this pressing demand,” Senator Nelson said.
He was speaking at the Jamaica Police Federation’s 67th Joint Annual Conference on Wednesday (September 1) at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.

“I want to recognise your demonstration of fortitude in the face of these times of challenges. I want to recognise your professionalism that, despite these severe concerns, you continue to work hard and be exemplars of dedication and sacrifice,” he said.
He extended congratulations to the security forces on their achievements, noting that their performance has resulted in the reduction in the murder rate.
“There are people who are stating that the reduction in crime is due to the extradition of Christopher Coke, and I find this to be a gross insult to the security forces because you have been relentless in your efforts to impose strategies to prevent a return of the country to the state of affairs that existed before,” Senator Nelson said.
He further stated that the Government was determined to make the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) more relevant to the needs of the time and, as such, more prepared to deal with each eventuality.
“We are prepared to provide to the Jamaica Constabulary Force with the tools that they need, the level of comfort and peace of mind, so as to allow members of the Force to go out there to protect, serve and to reassure,” he said.
Senator Nelson also wished the Federation continued success, as they strive for a better life and better working conditions for members.
