Negril Police Station Renovated

The Negril Police Station in Westmoreland has been refurbished and upgraded by the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment through the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF).

The project entailed overhaul of the roofing; construction of a new lecture theatre, holding area, identification room, perimeter wall, and barracks to accommodate some 70 police personnel; retrofitting of the administrative building, among other things.

Addressing the official opening ceremony on February 2, Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, Hon. Dr. Wykeham McNeill, said the upgrading work “is part of a broad, comprehensive, philosophical approach to the improvement and upgrading of our communities and resort areas.”

He noted that while $50 million was budgeted for the project, less than $40 million was spent “due to the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), providing first class-work on this station.”

“I am pleased that we have been able to provide a better working environment for the hard-working officers of this station, who, like all members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, put their lives on the line daily to protect our citizens.  On behalf of the residents of Negril and surrounding areas, I express our sincere appreciation for your hard work,” Dr. McNeill said.

He called on all citizens to play their part in supporting the courageous men and women of the JCF in the fight against crime and violence in the society.
