Negril Branch Library to be Expanded

June 19, 2008

The Full Story

The Negril Branch Library in Westmoreland is to be expanded by the Rock House Foundation in the parish, at a cost of approximately $11 million.
Ground was broken last week for the expansion works, which will see the building extended to accommodate 50 per cent more than its present capacity of 100 patrons.
According to Mayor of Savanna-la-Mar and Councillor for the Negril Division, Bertel Moore, when the expansion is completed in two months time, the computer lab would be more equipped to address the needs of the many students and adults who use the facilities daily.
“I must commend Peter Rose and his team from the Rock House Foundation, for being very instrumental in the refurbishing of the library. When the workmen complete the project, it will be able to house a lot more users of the library. They will also have more computers and more reading areas. I think this will do a lot for the Negril community,” Mayor Moore told JIS news.
The Rock House Foundation was established some years ago to assist in the enhancement of public buildings and spaces in the Negril area. The core of the group originated from the Rock House Hotel and has been instrumental in the recent expansion of the Negril All-age School in Westmoreland.
