NCBJ offers 25 percent discount on Systems Certification

November 15, 2010

The Full Story

Until December 2011, the National Certification Body of Jamaica (NCBJ) will be offering a 25 per cent discount to all organisations, in the private and public sector, requiring management systems certification.
To access the discounted rates, persons will need to apply for the NCBJ’s special discount card.
Management system certification refers to the verification, by a competent third party authority, declaring that an organisation’s structure is suitable for managing its processes and activities.
This certification also ensures that: inputs are transformed into products or services, which meet the organisation’s objectives; customers’ quality requirements are satisfied; and that the organisation is complying with relevant regulations, and is meeting its quality and environmental objectives.
Manager for NCBJ, Sheryl Mullings Anderson, explained that the promotion is for certification services for ISO 9000, which is a quality management system standard, and ISO 14001, an environmental management system standard.
She was addressing a World Quality Day Symposium at the Knutsford Court Hotel, New Kingston on Thursday (November 11).
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Reginald Budhan, said companies, especially small businesses “must now seize the opportunity to use the NCBJ discount card to increase their competitive edge.”
The NCBJ is an independent certification unit of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ), whose core function is the certification of management systems.
The symposium was put on in recognition of World Quality Day, by the Industry, Investment and Commerce Ministry, in collaboration with the NCBJ and the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality.
World Quality Day was introduced by the United Nations in 1990 to increase worldwide awareness of the important contribution that quality makes towards a nation’s and an organisation’s growth and prosperity.
