National Security Ministry Honours GSAT Achievers

Eleven students, who sat the 2010 Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT), were yesterday (Sept. 14) honoured by the Ministry of National Security for their outstanding performance.
The students, whose parents are employed to the Ministry, were presented with gift baskets and certificates during the inaugural award function held at the Ministry’s Oxford Road headquarters.
The awardees are: Shanelle Bryson, who is attending St. Catherine High; Brittany Campbell, St. Andrew High; Karel Campbell, Clan Carthy High; Dimetri Newby, Kingston College; Nicholas Newman, Kristoff Richards and David Andre Rose, Jamaica College; Oshane Peart and Roje Crawford, Calabar High; Kadyann Stupart, Campion College; and Daniel Davis, Ardenne High.
Minister of National Security, Senator Hon. Dwight Nelson, congratulated the children on their excellent achievement while encouraging them to remain focused and continue to excel.
“Be mindful of all that is there left for you to achieve. You must always achieve irrespective of what happens and (ensure) that your (parents) are proud of you,” he said.
“Always remember you have reached where you are because of the love and care of your parents,” he further urged.
Minister Nelson also encouraged the parents to keep on working with their children so that they may continue to excel throughout high school and university.
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dianne McIntosh, while also offering her owns words of commendations, said that the Ministry is committed to assisting young people to “stay on the right track”.
Nicholas Newman, who responded on behalf of the awardees, thanked the Ministry for the recognition, noting that they were truly proud.
He encouraged his fellow honourees to “go to class, do your work and behave yourselves.”
