Minister of National Security Derrick Smith, this morning met with members of the Police Officers Association.
The meeting comes in the wake of the recent announcement by Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas that he will be leaving office October 31.
The meeting which was cordial saw the POA members expressing certain concerns regarding the action of the Police Service Commission.
The POA says it will be writing to the Commission seeking clarification.
During the meeting, Minister Smith reiterated the fact that the responsibility of appointing a Police Commissioner is the sole responsibility of the police Service Commissioner.
The National Security Minister also informed the POA members that he has been advised by the Police Services Commission that when Commissioner Thomas demits office on October 31, and until a final decision is made about the appointment of a replacement, Deputy Commissioner Jevene Bent will act as Commissioner.
