National Independence Day Ceremony for King’s House, August 6

The Full Story

The ceremony commemorating Jamaica’s 47th year of Independence is set for August 6, at King’s House.
Presented by Their Excellencies, Governor-General, the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen and Lady Allen, the traditional celebration promises the usual pomp and pageantry, which has been associated with it throughout the years.
The ceremony gets underway with a parade by uniformed groups and guests are asked to be seated by 8:30 a.m., to welcome the arrival of the Governor-General, Prime Minister the Hon. Bruce Golding, Opposition Leader the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller and other members of Government.
Members of the public are invited to the ceremony, which will include Independence Day messages delivered by the Governor-General, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition. There will be patriotic songs, massed bands, traditional dances and a march past by various uniformed groups.
The dress code for the National Independence Day ceremony is lounge suit (jacket and tie) for men, and for women, elegant skirt, dress or pant suit.
