National Arena to be Refurbished

The Government  is to spend $60 million to  refurbish the National Arena, which is expected to begin soon.

Funding  will be provided by the Ministry of Finance and Planning and the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), each  allocating $30 million.

“There is definitely some work to be done there – upgrading of the bathrooms, windows and doors, the air condition unit, and some other basic things,” said Tourism and Entertainment Minister, Hon. Dr. Wykeham McNeill.

The Minister was speaking with JIS News following a media briefing to provide updates on the Tourism Linkages Hub,  at Sagicor Bank, in New Kingston, on February 2.

Dr. McNeill informed that the  Ministry has  approved the funding of the project, which will fall under the purview of Independence Park Limited.

It is expected that the project will be completed in  time for the staging of the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA) and the Jamaica Exporters’ Association (JEA) exposition to take place in April.
