NAJASO to Continue Serving Jamaicans

President of the National Association of Jamaican and Supportive Organization, (NAJASO), Mr. Richard Nugent says his association will continue to provide support to Jamaicans at home and in the Diaspora.

Addressing the official opening ceremony to celebrate NAJASO’s 40thanniversary held at the Secrets Resort in Montego Bay, St. James on Thursday (July 13), Mr. Nugent said NAJASO’s outreach programme, forms the basis of the organization’s existence.

“Forty years comes with ups and downs… NAJASO has made significant contributions to Jamaica, to our less fortunate brothers and sisters…This is just a part of the things we keep doing over the years,” he stated.

He said projects such as the annual medical mission will continue in September and will target more communities than they have visited before.

The NAJASO President said the organization will also support Jamaica’s education programme, through the provision of scholarships for children of parents with financial difficulties.

Also addressing the ceremony was Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Homer Davis who commended the NAJASO members for their efforts in bringing together the diaspora in support of the country.

He encouraged the members to continue forging partnerships with organizations for the betterment of the country.

Meanwhile, Governor General His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen underscored the need for constructive collaboration between Jamaica and organizations working to bring a better life to citizens.

“We in the homeland, have certainly been impacted not only by the direct contributions to projects here, but by the lobbying of your state, provincial and national governments on our behalf. The results have been very gratifying,” Sir Patrick said.

His message was read by Acting Custos of St. James, Claudette Bryan.

The three day NAJASO 40th anniversary conference which ends on July 15, is being staged under the theme ‘Building Capacity to Sustain Growth and Development’.
