More Assistance for Clarendon Farmers

Some 2,000 farmers in Clarendon are to benefit from $7 million in post-hurricane assistance from the Office of National Reconstruction to purchase much needed inputs to resuscitate their farms.
The money, which will be distributed through the Clarendon office of the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), will see each farmer receiving cash vouchers valued at $3,500.
The assistance follows on the 2,600 vouchers valued at $9.8 million, which were distributed to poultry and vegetable farmers in the parish earlier in the year.
According to Percival Shaw, RADA parish manager, his office was in receipt of the vouchers, and was in the process of distributing them. “We have found out that farmers in general are very appreciative of the assistance so far,” he told JIS News.
He noted that farmers involved in general crop and livestock production would benefit during this phase of distribution and the vouchers were to be redeemed for fertilizers and items for crop care. The distribution process, he said, should continue until March 21.
