The Montego Bay branch of the Atlanta-Montego Bay Sister City Committee has received the City of Atlanta’s highest honour, the Phoenix Award. The award was presented to Metty Scarlett Jones, Chairman of the Montego Bay branch by Atlanta’s Mayor, Shirley Franklin, at a reception held in Atlanta on Friday, October 20. Mayor Franklin lauded the Montego Bay Committee for its sterling support to the Atlanta Sister City Health Mission to Montego Bay for the past13 years, adding that the group was deserving of this award. Accepting the award, Mrs. Scarlett Jones said her committee was honoured to receive this recognition and pledged continued support to the Atlanta-Montego Bay Sister City Health Mission. The mission visits Montego Bay annually, and have catered to more than 35,000 patients over the past 13 years and donated medical supplies costing $45 million during that time.
Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Cecil Davis and a four-man delegation, including Councillors Barry Solomon, Gerard Mitchell, Secretary/ Manager, Ian Reid and Mrs. Scarlett-Jones, attended the Atlanta Sister Cities Economic Development Global Partnership conference in Atlanta from October 19 to 20.
