Money Must be Spent Wisely – PM Golding

July 3, 2009

The Full Story

Prime Minster the Hon. Bruce Golding has reminded citizens that the country was only able to source funds to pay its debt because it was a good creditor.
Responding to a plea for road repairs from a resident of Gutters St. James, Mr. Golding told the recent Town Hall Meeting in Montego Bay: “We have never ever in our history failed to pay our debt. That is part of what has helped to keep us going, we have a good reputation. I ask you to understand that out of every dollar that we spend, every single day of the year, including Sundays and public holidays, the Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Hon. Audley Shaw, has to draw a cheque for $200 million to service debt.
“It is not going to be possible to fix the roads as fast as we like. We have to deal with the worst ones first and importantly when we spend a dollar we must get a dollar’s worth of value on the road. That is what has to be done,” said Prime Minister Golding.
