Mobay’s Rooms Soar with Opening of Secrets Hotels

The hotel room stock in Montego Bay has increased by 700 suites, with the official opening on Wednesday (May 12), of Secrets St. James and Secrets Wild Orchid hotels, on the same property within the Montego Freeport area.
Prime Minister, Hon. Bruce Golding, declared the facility officially open, during a function to mark the occasion.
In his address, the Prime Minister paid tribute to investors in the project, for embarking on what he described as “a coalition of interest of several investor groups”, coming together to invest in Jamaica during a period of global recession.

He emphasised that Jamaica is poised to do well, despite the challenges presented by the recession.
“The prospects for the future are good, we are confident, we are bullish about the future, we are not going to try to contract to survive, we are going to expand to grow,” he emphasised.
He said that the introduction of the additional capacity presented by the Secrets resorts, forms part of the expansion that the country is using to drive its growth.
Every hotel built will mean more rooms to be filled, more marketing to be done and more creative ways to be found to invite people to come to Jamaica, as the country competes for its tourism business in a fiercely competitive market, he noted.

“But we are so confident that the team that we have, that the experience that we have gained, will enable us to conquer that competition,” he predicted.
Turning his attention to the Secrets Hotel investors, Prime Minister Golding stated that by their significant investment in the country, they have demonstrated their confidence in Jamaica and the support they have received.
“By our support and by the embrace that we have given to this project, we have demonstrated our confidence in you, to compliment the confidence that you have placed in Jamaica,” he explained.

He described the cooperation between investors and the Government and its agencies, as a partnership that will benefit them and the people of Jamaica.
Spanish Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency Jesus Silva, in his comments at the ceremony, also drew reference to the partnership of investors that are shareholders in the project, adding that through their investment they have placed their confidence in the Jamaican economy and the future of the country.
He said that their success in the project will make them important ambassadors of Jamaica’s image in the world, as an investor-friendly nation.
Newly opened Secrets St. James and Secrets Wild Orchid employ over 1,000 persons.
