The Full Story

Mayor of Montego Bay, His Workship Homer Davis, has welcomed the staging of the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP) conference in the Second City.

Speaking at the opening ceremony at the six-day event at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on Monday (April 30), Mayor Davis said he supports the focus of the conference on addressing the impact of crime on regional growth and development.

He said that the parish of St. James and the wider Jamaica stand to benefit from the initiatives and solutions that will emerge.

“This is a good step to reassuring tourists, business owners and Jamaicans that security and safety is a priority area for the Government,” Mayor Davis noted.

The Mayor, in his welcome remarks, urged commissioners and other delegates to work together in order to improve policing across the Caribbean.

“Stay engaged and connected as regional partners. If we share our common services, such as training, forensic analysis and research, it will improve our effectiveness in policing, which will impact our individual towns, cities, countries, tourism and economies,” he noted.

The ACCP conference is being held under the theme ‘An Integrated Approach Against Serious and Organised Crime – Implications for Regional Growth and Development.’

Among the areas of focus are community policing, firearms trafficking and technology solutions for crime-fighting.
