The Full Story

Delegates representing every continent met at the Rose Hall Resort and Spa in Montego Bay this week (May 16 to 18) for the third annual international conference on Information Resource Management.
Approximately 100 academics, researchers and practitioners were involved in the series of lectures, panel discussions and workshops, as part of activities for the three-day conference, held under the theme, “Collaboration and community in a global world”.
Speaking with JIS News Monday (May 17) during the conference, Co-Chairman, Professor Evan Duggan of the Mona School of Business, said that the conference was one of the best.

“Researchers and practitioners across the globe came and participated in the conference by sharing their ideas, to build collaborative network with scholars, in order to extend the discipline of information systems,” he said.
“Everyone agrees that this was an excellent conference. It was undoubtedly one of the best confirmed conferences to have been held, both in terms of the quality of the presentations, papers, workshops and panel discussions and the whole logistics of the conference. I am proud to have been associated with it,” Professor Duggan told JIS News.
He observed that Jamaica was short on research that could provide insights for generating policy to guide information systems and information technology decisions in business organisations, public sector and in government. This conference, he stressed, was geared towards satisfying such shortage and should be of great benefit to Jamaica, and other participating countries.
Co-Chairman of the conference, Professor Gerald Grant of Carleton University in Canada, agreed that the conference had met its core objective, of bringing together scholars from around the world to look at issues relating to information resources management and information systems and their application in organisation, in society and its impact on individuals.

“We try to accomplish, to bridge the divide or solitudes between these various language groups, and hope that by sharing with our Jamaican and Caribbean colleagues, that we build communities that will approach the future with confidence,” he added.
He noted that some of the leading scholars in the Information System (IS) field were involved with the workshops.
