March 31, 2008

The Full Story

The Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, with responsibility for Women’s and Gender Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Olivia Grange wishes to announce the establishment of the Corporate Offices of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports (MICYS), at 64 Knutsford Boulevard, Kingston 5.
In addition to the Corporate Offices, the location also houses the Culture Division of the Ministry.
The former Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation complex at South Odeon Avenue, Kingston 10, which houses the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ) and the Access to Information Unit, now also accommodates the Information Division, and the Bureau of Women’s Affairs.
The Trevennion Park Complex, Half Way Tree Road, houses the Youth Division, which comprises the offices of the Parliamentary Secretary, Senator Warren Newby as well as the National Centre for Youth Development and the Kingston Youth Information Centre, which have been relocated from the Caenwood Centre, Arnold Road.
Minister Grange said the establishment of the Corporate Offices would streamline the activities of the Ministry, providing a hub to coordinate the various departments of the MICYS, which is responsible for the process of social transformation through integrated development initiatives at the community and national levels.
Minister Grange added: “This is a brand new ministry and we have worked hard to bring all the elements together in a short time. It is the first time in our history that we have had all these departments of Government combined into a single ministry. Our mission is to bring about changes in the way we think and behave as a nation, as well as to maximize our potential in the areas of sports and the cultural and creative industries. We are placing special emphasis on our young people because we recognise that the changes we need must begin with them. Gender issues will also be a major area of focus for the Ministry”
The New Kingston offices will serve as the information and communications hub of the Government, providing strategic services in the implementation and management of Government information and communications systems.
