Minister Reminds Public that Emancipation Day will be Saturday, August 1

Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Pearnel Charles, is reminding the public that Emancipation Day will be celebrated on Saturday, August 1, as is customary.
Mr. Charles said that the reminder has become necessary because of numerous calls to his Ministry from employers and the general public seeking clarification of the issue, as August 1, 2009 falls on a Saturday.
He explained that the Holidays (Public General) Schedule states that Emancipation Day should be celebrated on the first day of August, except in cases when the date falls on a Sunday, in which case it would be celebrated on the following Monday. Labour Day is the only public holiday which is celebrated on the following Monday when it falls on a Saturday.
The Minister also advised the all laws and regulations pertaining to public holidays should be observed on Saturday, August 1.
