The Full Story

KINGSTON — Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon Olivia Grange, says that she is very excited about the prospects of the newly launched youth-focused website, www.youthjamaica.com, helping young Jamaicans to find jobs.

“Through the job search engine, young people will be able to post their résumés to potential employers and search through a database of openings. I am very excited about that, and I thank the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Inter-American Development Bank for partnering with us on this initiative,” the Minister said.

She encouraged young Jamaicans to use the website, and to give the ministry their honest feedback on the experience.

Speaking at the launch of the website at the Courtleigh Hotel, New Kingston, Miss Grange said that giving young Jamaicans a voice in Government decisions was a key principle underpinning the policies of the current administration.

“Youth are not a problem to be fixed, but are the nation’s greatest assets… And that is why we have been working hard to ensure that, right across Government, the young people are at the heart of all our decision making,” she said.

The Minister that youthjamaica.com, the official website of the National Centre for Youth Development, will be interactive, will facilitate youth participation in national life and will complement the work of the Youth Information Centres (YICs).

Youth Information Centres allow youths to access information through modern technology.  They also offer counselling and referral services, empowerment sessions and information on scholarships, career development, entrepreneurship programmes and training opportunities. Similar information will now be available on the website.
