The Full Story

Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing, Hon. Dr. Morais Guy, says he is impressed with the work of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA).

During a tour of an exhibition, held at the Authority’s headquarters in Kingston on August 17, the Minister said that the JCAA “has affirmed the professionalism with which we expect them to operate, and I leave here today with a greater understanding and appreciation, that indeed, those who fly are in safe hands."

“The equipment and all the gadgets that are on display are of good standard. I’m very impressed with the range of exhibitors who are here, who want to show Jamaica their capabilities, and to tell us, that indeed, when you want to fly, irrespective of what airline you fly on, that the services that are provided through the JCAA, are of the best standard," he said.

Dr. Guy also made special mention of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) – Air Wing – which displayed aspects of their operations. "The JDF have demonstrated where they are coming from and what they are capable of now,” he said.

Also of note was the display by the newly established airline, Fly Jamaica. Dr. Guy informed that the new carrier is “wholly owned by Jamaicans and former Air Jamaica staffers, and is currently undergoing the final approval stages before the JCAA gives them the go ahead to start flying."

There were also presentations by the Jamaica Tourist Board, Norman Manley International Airport, Caribbean Airlines, the Meteorological Office, Palisadoes Co-operative Credit Union, and the Caribbean Aerospace College.

The exhibition, which is being held under the theme: ‘Aviation on a Mission’, is scheduled to run from August 15 to 23, and will showcase a range of companies, which provide services within the aviation arena.
