The Honourable Olivia Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport today told the Sunshine Girls that their performance at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Australia spoke clearly that gold is not far away.

Minister Grange met the Sunshine Girls at the Norman Manley Airport this morning on their return from the Games.

The Sport Minister said, “I am even more confident having watched your performances over the past few weeks that we will be international netball champions very soon.”

“You have solidified the thought in everyone’s mind that we are definitely at the stage where we can beat New Zealand, England or Australia on any given day.

“We are so very pleased at how you bounced back from the loss to England to beat New Zealand convincingly for third place.

“Let me also use this opportunity to praise the youngest group of Jamaica’s netballers playing at the international level – the Under-16 Team.

“Our Under-16 players have shown their dominance of Caribbean netball in this age group, continuing their hold on the Jean Pierre Trophy.

“Great going young ladies; we salute you.

“I must also congratulate the coaches and other members of the support staff who have been doing a fine job with our teams. The results confirm the effectiveness of the work that they have been putting in.”
