October 13, 2010

The Full Story

The Management Institute for National Development (MIND) is introducing several courses in an effort to enhance the professionalism and performance quality of public service professionals.Marketing Manager at MIND, Shawnette Henry made the announcement today (October 12), during a ‘Think Tank’, at the Jamaica Information Service (JIS).
The courses include: Preparing Cabinet Submissions (October 29 to November 12); Report Writing and Presentation Skills (November 2 to December 3); Effective Corporate Governance (November 26 and 27); Professional Certification in Industrial Relations (November 8 to January 10, 2011); Supervisory Management (November 15 to February 9, 2011); Budget Preparation and Management (November 1 to 3) and Public Sector Senior Management Development Programme (January 11, 2011 to July 31, 2012).
The Marketing Manager pointed out that the courses being offered are in response to a number of critical needs within the public sector.
“Based on feedback received from human resource practitioners in the public sector, there is a demand for these courses and as a result, MIND saw it only fitting to continue to offer them and satisfy the demand,” Miss Henry explained, while pointing out that different levels of certifications will be offered, ranging from certificates of participation to a diploma at the postgraduate level.
In the meantime, she pointed out that while the cost of courses may seem prohibitive, they are still way below market rates and there are payment plans available.
“We normally have payment arrangements with the Ministries themselves, and for individuals who are self sponsored, we have payment plans available depending on the duration of the programme,” she informed.
While maintaining that the courses are usually well subscribed, the Marketing Manager is appealing to interested persons to attend at least one of the courses.
“I am appealing to everyone who may be interested to contact their HR Managers and see if their organisation is willing to foot the cost or at least subsidise it. If that doesn’t work, then feel free to contact MIND at 927-1761 and we will work with you to come up with a convenient payment plan,” she advised.
Persons interested in acquiring more information on any of the available courses are being encouraged to contact MIND’s Marketing Unit at 927-1761, email marketing@mind.edu.jm or visit the website at www.mind.edu.jm.
