The Full Story

Plans are in high gear for the 13th staging of the Minard Livestock Show and Beef Festival, which will be held on Thursday, November 11, at the Minard Estate in Brown’s Town, St. Ann.
The annual event will be hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in collaboration with the Agro Investment Corporation, under the theme, ‘Partnering in Livestock Production’.
“The theme speaks to the strengthening of a relationship between livestock farmers and users of the livestock products so as to boost the sector and the economy at large,” Minard Show Co-ordinator, Miss Doreen Hibbert told JIS News.
She said there will be a slew of activities geared towards stimulating interest among livestock farmers and members of the wider farming community.
“Activities for the day will include a display of cattle, sheep and goat, Schools Art & Craft Competition, cattle judging and parade of animals, spit roast, as well as a Cattle Auction and Calf Scramble Competition,” she said, noting that the activities were planned so as to cater to the interests of the hundreds of students who were expected to attend the event, as well as to attract the general public.
She is appealing to members of the public to come out and support the event, which will be educational and entertaining.
“The gates will open at 8:00a.m organisations and agencies such as Hi-Pro Feeds, Seprod Group of Companies, T. Geddes Grant, Grace Kennedy and Company Limited, the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), the Jamaica 4-H Clubs and the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), among others will be on the hand to display their products and offer valuable information,” she informed.
The Minard Livestock Show and Beef Festival will be staged from 9:00am to 5:00p.m with an entry cost of $300 for adults, and $100 for children.
