The Full Story

The Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) and the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) have partnered to provide shrimp vendors in Middle Quarters, St. Elizabeth with customer service training and support to improve their operations.

Some 40 vendors, who were trained under the TPDCo flagship programme ‘Team Jamaica’, were presented with certificates on Thursday (May 31), at a ceremony held at the Spring Head New Testament Church of God.

They also received uniforms, aprons and caps from JSIF, while a number of directional signs were erected in the area.

Acting Executive Training Manager with TPDCo, Beverly Price, in addressing the vendors, stated that her agency is committed to working with the vendors to upgrade their skills.

“Note well, however, that for any effort to be successful, it will rely on all of you who have completed this programme, going back into your own districts and towns, and re-enforcing what you have learnt especially in your environmental and geography sessions, about the importance of keeping the community clean, safe and inviting for all visitors”, she stated.

She added that the training the vendors received should prove beneficial to them, their families and Jamaica as a whole.

Project Manager for JSIF’s Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI), Stephanie Hutchinson-Ffrench, told the vendors that their new look is an important part of their overall service delivery, and encouraged them to honour their part of the commitment to maintain the standard of attire.

“I encourage everyone to do their part in maintaining high standards and total professionalism in all areas, in your product offerings, your attire and your surroundings; take nothing for granted.  Everything is important as it contributes to the excellence of the overall customer experience”, she stated.

She encouraged them to continue to strive to improve their product and to be creative.
