Merl Grove Past Students to Honour Dr. Alfred Sangster

Educator and former principal of the College of Arts, Science, and Technology (CAST), now University of Technology (UTech), Dr. Alfred Sangster, will be honoured by the Merl Grove High School Past Students Association’s Northeastern American Chapter, for nearly 50 years of service to that school as board chairman.
He will be recognised at the 5th anniversary gala and 70s party, slated for Saturday, July 4, at the Westminster Banquet Hall at Lake Ridge in Woodbridge, Virginia, USA.
Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, Anthony Johnson, will deliver the keynote address at the gala, while past student of Merl Grove and former Minister of Tourism, Aloun Assamba, will pay tribute to Dr. Sangster.
“We are thrilled to honour the first chairman of our school board, Dr. Sangster, who has contributed tremendously to the success of our alma mater,” said President of the Association, Andrea McDonald-Black.
She noted that “his dedication and commitment to the institution for nearly 50 years, justifies our bestowing this honour upon him.”
At the function, homage will also be paid to two long-serving past teachers, Zoe Dumas and Shirley Thompson, while 12 students will be presented with the Shakara Harris Scholarship.
The award is in honour of the late student, who was killed in 2004 when she was hit by a car while attempting to cross the road in front of the school.
