Members of Parliament to be Sworn in Sept. 27

The swearing-in ceremony for Members of Parliament will take place on Thursday, September 27, 2007, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Gordon House on Duke Street, in downtown Kingston.
Sixty Members of Parliament who were successful in the general election held on September 3, including 33 for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and 27 for the People’s National Party (PNP), will be sworn in. The ceremony will also mark the opening of the new session of Parliament.
On Tuesday, September 11, Bruce Golding was sworn in as Jamaica’s eighth Prime Minister by the Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Professor Kenneth Hall, on the lawns of King’s House.
Seventeen Cabinet Ministers were also sworn in by the Governor- General on Friday, September 14 at King’s House.
In addition to the Prime Minister, the Cabinet members are: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Dr. Kenneth Baugh; Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Audley Shaw; Minister of National Security, Derrick Smith; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Senator Dorothy Lightbourne; Minister of Education, Andrew Holness; Minister of Industry, Commerce and Investment, Karl Samuda; Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett; Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Christopher Tufton; Minister of Energy, Mining and Telecommunications, Clive Mullings; Minister of Water and Housing, Dr. Horace Chang; Minister of Labour and Social Security, Pearnel Charles; Minister of Health and Environment, Rudyard Spencer; Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Olivia Grange; Minister of Transport and Works, Michael Henry; Minister without Portfolio (Office of the Prime Minister), James Robertson; Minister without Portfolio (Ministry of Finance and the Public Service), Senator Don Wehby; and Minister without Portfolio (Ministry of Finance and Public Service), Senator Dwight Nelson.
Following the swearing-in of the new Cabinet, 11 Ministers of State and two Parliamentary Secretaries were sworn in by the Governor-General at King’s House on September 17.
The Ministers of State are: Robert Montague, Shahine Robinson and Daryl Vaz, Office of the Prime Minister; Andrew Gallimore, Ministry of Labour and Social Security; Joseph Hibbert, Transport and Works; Everald Warmington, Water and Housing; Michael Stern, Industry, Commerce and Investment; William J.C. Hutchinson, Agriculture; and Laurence Broderick, Energy, Mining and Telecommunications.
Arthur Williams and Dr. Ronald Robinson, who were sworn in as Senators, will serve as Ministers of State in the Ministries of National Security, and Foreign Affairs and Trade, respectively.
Warren Newby and Aundre Franklyn, who were also sworn in as Senators, will serve as Parliamentary Secretaries in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Health and Environment, respectively.
