Members of JCF in St. Ann Reaching out to Young Street Boys

Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) in St. Ann have embarked on an outreach programme, geared towards providing an education for poor young boys in the parish.
Woman Constable Lorna West-Small, Community Relations Officer at the headquarters in St. Ann’s Bay, told JIS News that 12 street boys have been adopted by the St. Ann Police and are being monitored for positive outcomes.
“These boys once roamed the streets of Ocho Rios, but now they are attending school at the Emmanuel Institute For Learning in Tower Isle, St. Mary,” she noted.
Mrs. West-Small said that members of the St. Ann Police Community Relations team have been visiting these young boys at the school on a regular basis, and have been providing lunches for them.
“We have seen positive changes in these young boys and it is evident that they are learning. We are impressed and the teachers at Emmanuel Institute For Learning are also impressed with the way in which these boys have been progressing,” she said.
She pointed out that the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) has played a very important role in the programme by paying the tuition fees for the 12 boys.
Mrs. West-Small thanked her colleagues for supporting the programme, which has allowed the boys to realize the worth of education. She also encouraged them to continue to reach out to the young people in St. Ann. “The St. Ann Police Community Relations Department is really reaching out to young persons in the parish. If we instill the positives in them at an early stage, we can look forward to having a better Jamaica,” she said.
