Medical Personnel In Place For Funeral Of Mckenley

Medical personnel will be on hand at the National Arena and National Heroes Park for the official funeral service and burial of sports icon, Hon. Herb McKenley, O.M., on Saturday (December 8). “The two venues will be fully manned by teams, including doctors, nurses and emergency medical technicians. Three ambulances will be utilised for the funeral service and at National Heroes Park,” Dr. Marion Bullock Ducasse, Director of Emergency, Disaster Management and Special Services in the Ministry of Health and Environment, has said.

She was speaking yesterday (Dec. 6), at a press briefing at Jamaica House, hosted by the Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Olivia Grange, who also updated the media on arrangements for the official funeral for Mr. McKenley.
Dr. Ducasse also stressed that the Ministry of Health would be ensuring that all visitors attending the funeral service met all the international health requirements before arriving in the island.
“In terms of international health, we monitor where our visitors are coming from and ensure that all the international health requirements are met, and that we take all the preventive measures and have all our surveillance systems in place,” she explained.
Mr. McKenley, who was born in Clarendon on July 10, 1922 died at the University Hospital of the West Indies on November 26. He was 85 years old. The sports hero is fondly remembered as one of the greatest 400-metre runners.
