McKenley’s Body to Lie in State at Calabar High and National Arena Dec. 7

The body of the late Jamaican sports icon, Hon. Herb McKenley, OM, will be on view at Calabar High School on Red Hills Road and the National Arena on Friday, December 7.
Mr. McKenley’s body will lie in state at his alma mater, Calabar High, between 8:00 a.m and 9:00 a.m, after which he will be transported to the National Arena for further viewing between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The sports hero, who was awarded the Order of Merit in 2004, died on November 26 at age 85. He will be given an official funeral on Saturday (December 8), at the National Arena, after which he will be buried in National Heroes Park.
For persons wishing to pay their last respects while his body is taken from Calabar to the National Arena, the route will be from Calabar High on to Red Hills Road, left on to Dunrobin Avenue, right on to Constant Spring Road, left on to West King’s House Road, right on to Waterloo Road, then on to Trafalgar Road.
The hearse will then take a right turn on Lady Musgrave Avenue, on to Old Hope Road, left on to Tom Redcam Avenue, left on to Arthur Wint Drive and right into the National Arena.
After the public viewing at the National Arena, there will be a wake for Mr. McKenley at the same venue from 9:00 p.m. to midnight.
The sports icon leaves behind widow, Beverley and four children.
