Mayor of Montego Bay Calls On Residents to Demonstrate More Love

Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Charles Sinclair has called on residents of St. James and its environs to demonstrate more love and concern for one another, to be civil towards each other and to uphold and respect the law.
Addressing persons in attendance at the St. James Parish Council’s Municipal Christmas tree lighting ceremony, yesterday (December 17), at Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay, the Mayor said during this season, persons should take time to reflect on those who suffered as a result of crime and violence and other traumatic experiences. “While in this season of merriment, we must take time out to reflect on the year that was. It has been one with many challenges to us as a municipality. We suffered from heavy and constant rains, which created havoc with much of our roadways,” the Mayor said.
“The parish of St. James to date has gone past last year’s figures in respect of death by unlawful means. We must take time out to remember in our prayers all those within and outside of this parish who lost friends and loved ones. We must remember all law enforcement officers who lost their lives in their efforts to protect us and make us safe from criminal elements,” he added.
Mr. Sinclair said the parish had several challenges and demands which will be “tackled with much vigour in the new year”, and called on all citizens to partner with the parish council as the new year approaches.
In his address, Custos of St. James, Hon. Clarence Nelson encouraged all citizens, in the spirit of the season, to remember those less fortunate and make some effort to touch their lives in a positive way. “I ask all you citizens of St. James and across Jamaica, to give a little cheer to those less fortunate about you and let us fly the flag of St. James very high, remembering that the spirit of Christmas is peace on earth, goodwill to all men,” he said.
